The Cajun French Music Association, Lake Charles Chapter, held its annual meeting at the VFW Post 2130 and elected officers and board members for 1989-90.

Officers include Joe Simon, president; J.C. Gaspard, vice president; Della Mott, secretary; Edna

Abshire, treasurer; Lee Richard, parliamentarian, and Alfred Miller, sergeant-at-arms.

Elected to the board of directors are Phil Menard, Lesa Cormier, Joe Bonsall, Anna Fontenot, Leetel Hanks, Buford Balley, Cliff Granger, Mack Manual, Dave Soileau and Hillray Daigle.

Mrs. Waldmeier, parade marshal

Dorothy Tharp Waldmeier, retired Catholic school educator, will lead the St. Louis High School Homecoming Parade as grand marshal Friday, Oct. 13.

Mrs. Waldmeier, a 1945 graduate of St. Charles Academy, received her B.S. degree from LSU and did graduate work in mathematics at McNeese.

During her 29 years in education at St. Charles, Immaculate Conception School and St. Louis High School, she taught algebra I and II, geometry, advanced math, chemistry, biology and general science. She was mathematics department head at St. Louis when she retired in 1988.

Mrs. Waldmeier is married to Robert Waldmeier, and they have four sons, one daughter and 12 grandchildren.

Fair queen contestants

Ten girls, representing area schools, are making final preparations for the Cal-Cam Fair queen contest to be held Tuesday night.

Queen Cal-Cam XXII will be crowned at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the fairgrounds by Dave Pearce, Louisiana commissioner of agriculture.

The contestants and their schools, are: Cynthia Young, DeQuincy; Pamela Casey, Sam Houston; Donna Bujard, Vinton; Sharon Derouen, Bell City; Ilene Smith, Starks.

Also, Greta Boyle, LaGrange; Pam Johnson, Sulphur; Catherine Price, St. Charles; Patti Addison, Marion; Jo Ann Langford, West Lake.

MSC frechmen officials

Ronald Hayes, Lake Charles radio-TV major, has been elected president of the largest freshman class in McNeese State College history.

Also elected by the 1467 member class to serve through the 1964-65 school year were Johnette Ashley, senator; Judy Lynn Pearce, cheerleader, and five members of the freshman court. Members of the freshman court are Sheila Howard, Sheryl LeBleu, Madelyn Meyers, Miss Pearce and Joyce

Wyninger.

Hayes, a LaGrange graduate and son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Hayes, was also elected male cheerleader. Miss Ashley, a fine arts major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John N. Ashley of Lake Charles, is also a LaGrange graduate.

Miss Howard, a home economics major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil H. Howard, Lake Charles. Miss LeBleu, taking a general course of study, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry

LeBleu. Miss Meyer of Sulphur, a nursing major, is the daughter of Madelyn Meyers. Miss Pearce, secretarial science major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert I. Pearce of Lake Charles. Miss Wyninger of Sulphur, a lower elementary education major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Birch P. Wyninger.

American Legion Post 1

Lauded last night for his leadership of Lake Charles legionnaires was last year’s Post Commander B.A. Marriner. Mr. Marriner was presented the Past Commander’s medal by Thomas F. Porter. He was thanked for bringing the post out of debt among other things by James O. Dolby, present head of the group.

Building Committee Chairman C.W. Gabbert asked Adjutant Paul Floyd that a questionnaire be sent members requesting their suggestions, plans and site selections for the proposed American Legion home.

Membership Committee Chairman W.E. Richard appointed as team captains Commander Dolby and Jack Doyle. The drive for members will begin immediately and last through Armistice day.

Earlier in the evening, Mrs. Charles F. D’Aunoy, member of the American Legion auxiliary, meeting downstairs in the same building, asked legionnaires to help her group in getting new members to join.

Enterprise Club

The first meeting of the fall season was held by the Enterprise club Wednesday with the regular luncheon followed by the business session.

Mrs. I.V. Maurer, president, had charge of the meeting and Mrs. A.F. Beattie, secretary, and Mrs.

Joseph Fry, treasurer, gave reports and various committees working during the activities of the vacation period.

Three new members were reported by Mrs. Kenneth Crosby, chairman of the membership committee: Mrs. Floyd DeWitt, Mrs. B.M. Choate and Mrs. Kinney Reid.

BERLIN — The German air force today was ordered to continue its attacks on British warships blockading the North Sea. Germany reported six hits on British vessels during the Monday attack.
