15 fireworks citations issued in last three years

How many citations has the Lake Charles Police Department written for discharging fireworks in the city limits in the past three years?

City officials said Lake Charles police have issued 15 fireworks citations in the last three years.

The city code prohibits the exploding of fireworks in the city; the ordinance contains an exception for professional pyrotechnic displays conducted with a city permit.

Rumor says ‘Days’ faces cancellation

Is “Days of Our Lives” being taken off and being replaced with a talk show?

It’s unclear.

People magazine reported last week that NBC’s recent hiring of Megyn Kelly, lately of Fox News, could bode ill for “Days of Our Lives,” which has been on the air since the mid-1960s.

“A source connected to the beloved soap opera tells PEOPLE that several cast members have been told that this upcoming year of the series will likely be its last. …,” reads a story on People.com.

“The source says executives at the show have given some key staffers indication that their days are numbered.”

The New York Times on Jan. 3 reported that Kelly will eventually host a daytime show and a Sunday newsmagazine on NBC.

St. Jude’s Ranch accepts old cards

Is anyone wanting the old Christmas cards?

You can send used and new greeting cards to St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, 100 St. Jude’s St., Boulder City, NV 89005.

“St. Jude’s Ranch for Children recycles your used greeting cards and creates new holiday and all-occasion greeting cards. Recycled cards are sold to support our programs and services for abused, neglected and homeless children, young adults and families,” reads the ranch’s website.

“The program is beneficial to everyone — customers receive fun, ‘green’ holiday or other occasion cards they can feel good sending to their friends and loved ones, and the children at St. Jude’s Ranch receive payment for their work and learn basic job skills and the importance of recycling.”

The program uses only the fronts of cards; “please check to be sure the backside of the front of the card is clear of any handwriting, etc.,” reads the site.

The ranch can’t accept cards made by Hallmark, Disney or American Greetings.

The ranch prefers cards that measure 5 by 7 inches or smaller.

The cheapest way to mail large quantities of cards is to use a U.S. Postal Service flat-rate box.
