“We’re expecting a few holiday shipments this week, but I’m most excited about two,” said Steve Stoma, storeowner. “We’re making room now for a big shipment of department store name brands and a special shipment of home goods that include Cuisinart and other brand name appliances.”

How does a store that heavily discounts its merchandise season after season ring in the season of giving? Stoma, usually business-like and pragmatic, is surprisingly susceptible to the Christmas spirit. He is reducing discounted prices – again. Just look for the yellow signs throughout the store that show additional discounts applied at the register. 

“I want customers to find what they want and I want them to be amazed at the price,” Stoma said. “I want to make Christmas affordable. I’ve decided to reduce clothing and shoes for the entire family another 50 percent off our already-low prices.” 

Designer brands include Eileen Fisher, Lauren, Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, J Renee, Nautica, Levi, Stacy Adams, Bearpaw and Florsheim and major department store brands.  

How can S&M offer such savings? Unlike most brick and mortar stores, the increasing popularity of Internet shopping benefits S&M Family Outlet and its customers.

“When online purchases or gifts are returned, because the item isn’t the color expected or because the gift is a duplicate, Internet companies are forced to dispose of the merchandise,” Stoma explained. “The steps required to get it back in the system make it difficult to handle in a timely fashion. That’s why I’m able to buy brand name merchandise at huge discounts, and pass the savings on to customers.”

For those who have never visited S&M Family Outlet here’s an example of how low prices can be: A pair of men’s Polo jeans, originally priced at $85 were marked down 50 percent on the tag. At the register, the price was discounted by another 50 percent, making the S&M Family Outlet price $21.25. Eileen Fisher shoes originally priced at $175 were marked down and then discounted to $43.75. Luxurious Pashima scarves, which feel like cashmere and are large enough to use as wraps make the perfect gift at only $5.99.
