Henry, Saucier named all-state

Reginal Johnson Jr. and Kolby Morgan capped off a pair of decorated careers with senior seasons that earned them the Most Valuable Player awards in Class 3A as voted by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Joining them on the all-State teams were a pair of Southwest Louisiana representatives.
Making the boys second team was St. Louis sophomore Kelvin Henry, who averaged 15.7 points per game and led the Saints to the state quarterfinals. On the girls second team was South Beauregard freshman Sissy Saucier, who averaged 14.8 points per game while also leading the Lady K’s to the quarterfinals.
Johnson, a 6-foot-4 forward from Monroe’s Richwood High, averaged 32 points and 15 rebounds during the Rams’ run to the state title game.
Morgan, John Curtis’ 5-7 guard, led the Patriots to the second overall seed in the girls bracket with a 21-point, six-rebound and three-assist season.
The University High duo of Joe Spencer and Bonita Branch Johnson swept the Coach of the Year awards after leading the Cubs to the girls and boys state championships.
Joining Johnson on the first team were sophomore forward Wayde Sims of University Lab, Bossier’s senior guard Devonte Hall, Parkview Baptist senior forward James Thompson and another U-High Cub in sophomore guard Skylar Mays.
Sims averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds for U-High and was named the MVP of the title game. Mays (11 ppg) ran the show for the Cubs at point guard and set a Top 28 record with 17 assists in two games.
Thompson (18 ppg, 12 rpg) and Hall (20 ppg, 7 rpg) — the MVP’s of District 7-3A and District 1-3A, respectively — filled out the first team.
Alongside Morgan on the first team were University’s inside-out combination of junior Alanie Fisher and senior Terriel Ross, Rayville’s freshman forward Arielle Richardson, and junior guard Deja McKinney of Ville Platte.
Fisher (17 ppg) and Ross (14 ppg) averaged double figures. Newcomer Richardson averaged 17 points and eight rebounds on the season, good enough to claim the co-MVP of District 2-3A for a Rayville team that advanced to the quarterfinals. McKinney led Ville Platte to a state runner-up finish by averaging 20 points per game.
Port Allen’s Nick Parker (20 ppg), Richwood’s Deunzay Wyatt (21 ppg), Richard Durant of John Curtis (16 ppg) and Union Parish’s DeAndre Elliot (22 ppg) were named to the boys’ second team.
The girls’ second team consisted of Saucier, Mansfield’s Ashlyn Jacobs (18 ppg), Tia Charles of John Curtis (15 ppg), Alayah Mitchell from Richwood (17 ppg) and Ville Platte’s Tyreonna Doucet (12 ppg).
