In Lake Charles, love is in the air — and the DVD players.

Movie rental chain Redbox named Lake Charles No. 5 in its annual list of “America’s Most Romantic Cities.”

Rankings were based on the number of romance and romantic comedy movies rented from Redbox locations in each city.

This year’s other top spots went to Glendive, Mont., followed by Columbus, Miss.; Sherman, Texas; and Fairbanks, Ark.

“We pulled data on romantic movie rentals from U.S. cities to discover which markets were more inclined to look for love,” Ash Eldifrawi, chief marketing and customer experience officer at Redbox, said in a news release. “The results give us lighthearted insights into where romance lives nationwide.”

Nationally, the most-rented romantic movies for 2016 included “Me Before You,” “The Choice” and “The Perfect Match.”

Lake Charles fell five places from last year, when it tied Columbus for first place.

Redbox operates more than 40,000 kiosks across the country, including 19 in Lake Charles, according to redbox.com.
