A 21-year-old Moss Bluff man is facing a host of charges after fighting with troopers Tuesday afternoon, state police said.
Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman, said Michael Paul Gaudin II has been charged with obstructing a public passage, resisting an officer, felony battery on a police officer, misdemeanor battery on a police officer, simple criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace by public intoxication and pedestrian walking improperly upon a highway.
Bond was set at $4,100.
“Shortly before 5 p.m., we received a call about a pedestrian jumping in and out of traffic on U.S. 171 near La. 3059,” Anderson said in a news release. “Two nearby Troopers responded and encountered the Gaudin near the middle of the highway.
“Troopers agreed to give Gaudin a ride in order to get him off the highway. During a safety check for weapons, a suspicious object was discovered in his pocket that prompted Troopers to detain Gaudin for further investigation. The object was thought to be drug related.”
Anderson said Gaudin became combative, striking one of the Troopers in the face and fighting vigorously, before he was restrained with the use of a Taser.
One of the Troopers suffered torn ligaments in his leg and a possible dislocated ankle, Anderson said.
