Be Prepared: Christmas Tree disposal

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Ready to undecorate the tree, stow those decorations that seemed magical just a few weeks ago and start fresh in 2016?</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">For disposing of live trees, the following information may be useful when Christmas trees cannot be cut up small enough to be disposed of in trash cans.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Lake Charles residents within the city limits who have their trash picked up by the city’s department of public works can put their trees out for pickup. These trees must be free of flocking, lights and other decoration. The tree pickup truck will lag behind the regular trash truck on the regular day of pickup, anywhere from 5 minutes to 55 minutes. The tree must be at least three feet from the trashcan – or the trash truck won’t pick up the garbage can.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Sulphur residents within the city limits who have their trash picked up by the city’s public works department will need to call the department at 537-4500 to get their name on the list for the bulk pickup truck to be scheduled to dispose of Christmas trees free of decorations.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Iowa and Moss Bluff residents served by Progressive Waste Solutions will need to call 436-2161 for bulk pickup.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Residents living outside the city limits of Sulphur and Lake Charles and served by Waste Management can expect their trees to be collected enroute as long as the tree is eight-feet long or less.</span>
<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Calcasieu parish has residential solid waste convenience centers at the following locations. No commercial waste accepted. Residents will need a valid driver’s license to confirm residency.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Weighting the tree and sinking it in private fish ponds trees in private ponds help make a fish refuge and feeding area.</span>
