Bill would benefit SW La. projects

BATON ROUGE — Cities and parishes in the area surrounding Calcasieu Parish are benefiting from the state’s capital construction bill.

The measure, House Bill 2, was approved by the House on Monday and was sent to the Senate.

Bond money and recurring funds are financing the projects. Some receive one-time funds.

A number of the projects have been in previous construction bills. 

Those in Priority 1 are eligible for immediate funding. Priorities 2 through 5 are waiting in line for their money in coming years.

Here are the projects in Allen, Beauregard, Jeff Davis and Vernon parishes:

Jeff Davis Parish, acquisition and renovation of existing building and site for regional consolidated jail facility, $5.9 million, Priority 1.

Vernon Parish, Fort Polk thoroughfare electrical power extension and utilities, including generators, $480,000, Priority 1; visitor center, $350,000, Priority 5; creation of Vernon Lake Cultural Center, Recreation and Tourism Park, $260,000, Priority 5; Fort Polk thoroughfare plan, $1.4 million, Priority 1, $7.5 million, Priority 5; Catfish Hut Road and Bridge repair and/or replacement, $325,000, Priority 1.

More Vernon Parish, Pickering School parking lot, $90,000, nonrecurring revenues; Plainview Road improvements, $82,900, nonrecurring revenues; lift station and force main for Vernon Parish Jail, $32,000, nonrecurring revenues.

DeQuincy, Buxton Creek emergency drainage improvements, $624,700, Priority 1.

DeRidder, community recreational building and shelter and rehabilitation of existing structure, $2 million, Priority 5; education and job training center, $205,000, Priority 5.

Hornbeck, emergency connection with West Vernon Waterworks District and inline booster station, $95,000, Priority 5; improvements to the compressed natural gas system,$57,700, nonrecurring revenues; emergency connection with West Vernon Waterworks District and inline booster station, $42,600, nonrecurring revenues; emergency connection with Sabine Parish Water Works District 1, $18,600, nonrecurring revenues; rehabilitation of elevated water tank, $3,600, nonrecurring revenues.

Leesville, street rehabilitation and extension, $755,000, Priority 1; water system rehabilitation, including generators, $375,000, Priority 1; water system rehabilitation, including generators, $500,000, nonrecurring revenues; acquisition of East Central Water System, $7,000, nonrecurring revenues; University Parkway sewer system and wastewater treatment facilities enhancements, $19,300, nonrecurring revenues.

New Llano, water system improvements, $800,000 local match, $306,500, Priority 1; Raymond Street rehabilitation, $7,000, nonrecurring revenues; expansion of wastewater system south to Fort Polk entrance road, $750,000 local match, $35,700, nonrecurring revenues.

Rosepine, wastewater treatment plant improvement, $1.6 million, Priority 5; rehabilitation of elevated water tank, $59,500, nonrecurring revenues; improvements to sewer collection system, $110,200, nonrecurring revenues.

West Beauregard Parish Waterworks District 3, Longacre Road water plant improvements, $50,000, Priority 5.

Beauregard Waterworks District 6, water system improvements, $78,500, Priority 1, $1.5 million, Priority 5.

Beauregard Parish, Crosby, Butler and Pleasant Hill roads, $12,000, nonrecurring revenues.

Merryville, sewerage pump station and aeration system improvements, $4,500, nonrecurring revenues.

Oberlin, lift station pump and control replacement, $150,000, nonrecurring revenues.

South Toledo Bend Waterworks District water distribution system, Sabine Parish, $8,800, nonrecurring revenues.

Chenier Plain Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority, Boston Canal/Vermilion Bay bank stabilization, $65,000, nonrecurring revenues.
