Call them the cardiac Cowgirls.

Not once but twice Friday night, McNeese State rallied from an early deficit to sweep Lamar in a doubleheader at Joe Miller Field.

Alexis Dibbley homered in each game, giving her three straight outings with home runs. The one in the nightcap was a game-winner.

Dibbley blasted a two-run shot to center with one out in the sixth inning to break a tie and lift McNeese to a 6-4 victory in the second game. The Cowgirls entered the sixth down 4-1.

McNeese won the first game 8-2 after trailing 2-0.

The wins lifted McNeese to an 18-7 record overall and 2-0 in the SLC. Lamar fell to 11-12, 0-2. The series finale is set for noon Saturday.

Dibbley had walked her first two times up before hitting her fourth home run of the season. It came after Gwinn Hall drove in the tying runs with a pinch-hit single.

Ryann Schexnayder (1-0) picked up the win by working three perfect innings in relief. Schexnayder struck out two, including pinch-hitter Roxy Thompson, to end the game.

Kaylee Cuevas (3-4) took the loss for Lamar. Jada Munoz and Kassidy Chance had two hits each for McNeese.

After giving up two runs in the first to fall behind, the Cowgirls scored three in the bottom of the frame to take the lead in the opener. Dibbley and Nyjah Fotentot hit back-to-back home runs in the second as McNeese took a 5-2 lead and never looked back.

Freshman Brookelyn Taylor recovered from the slow start to go five innings and pick up the win, improving to 6-2.

Fontenot finished 3-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in two, to lead McNeese. Corine Poncho, Rylee Cloud, and Munoz all had two hits as the Cowgirls pounded out 11.
