Barbaro leads Cowboys

Danny Barbaro delivered four hits and drove in three runs as the Cowboys captured the first Southland Conference series of the season Saturday.
Barbaro led a McNeese State offense that toppled Nicholls 11-4 in Thibodeaux to take the first two games of the weekend series against the Colonels. The Cowboys will go for the series sweep Sunday at 2 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The victory was the third straight for McNeese, which evened its record to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the league. Nicholls fell to 4-8, 0-2.
Barbaro, who also scored a pair of runs, keyed a 12-hit Cowboy attack against the Nicholls rotation.
Matt Stancliff reached base four times after going 5-for-5 in the series opener Friday night. He had a hit, scored a run, and drove in another.
Simon Larranga and Connor Schneider each added two hits and combined to score five runs for the Cowboys. McNeese also took advantage of three Colonel errors.
Eric Nachtsheim improved to 2-0 by going six innings and allowing eight hits and three runs, but only one earned. He struck out nine. Parker Morgan and Wyatt Wick threw the final three innings.
