Beauregard Parish Fire District Four Chief Eric Stracener said it’s been a very busy two weeks fighting fires in Beauregard Parish due to dry weather and wind. On Wednesday, the district responded to four calls with three within district four and the fourth to serve as mutual aid.

On Tuesday, District Four responded to three calls with none in district four. Stracener said the calls have been for woodland and pastures for the most part.

“It’s been busy for the last month and the hard freeze we had killed all of the surface vegetation and then it got really dry and windy and that’s not a good combination,” Stracener said.

Beauregard and Vernon parishes are currently under a burn ban as of Monday, Feb. 23.

“It’s so dry right now and with the wind it multiplies the hazards — we need some rain,” Eddie Ware, Beauregard Parish Police Jury president said.

Stracener would like to remind the residents of Beauregard that spring is coming and to hold off on burning at the moment until the burn ban is lifted and weather conditions improve.

“Please heed the burn ban — don’t conduct any outdoor open burning and just be patient, spring is coming,” Stracener said.
