A Lake Charles man has been charged with multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder after firing at police officers Sunday night in the 1800 block of N. Tallowood.

Lt. Jeffrey Keenum said a caller notified their office just before 6:40 p.m. Sunday that someone was outside a home in the neighborhood firing a weapon.

Keenum said when officers arrived, 55-year-old Lance Lane Chiasson was seen exiting his residence, armed with a weapon, and then began firing at four officers.

“Officers took cover and the male entered his residence and continued to shoot at officers,” Keenum said.

Keenum said no officers or civilians — include Chiasson’s elderly mother who was inside the residence with him during the shooting — were injured.

He said vehicles across the street from Chiasson’s residence were struck.

“The LCPD SWAT team and hostage negotiators were contacted about this potential hostage situation,” Keenum said. “After several hours of negotiations with Chiasson, the SWAT team was able to successfully arrest Chaisson without further incident.”

Chiasson has been charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal use of dangerous instrumentalities. Judge Fazzio set his bond at $550,000.
