Still looking to find inside pieces for his roster, Bill Armstrong is close to signing somebody he knows well to fill a spot.
Yanis Ndjonga, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound redshirt sophomore, has committed to follow the new head coach from Baylor to McNeese State. Armstrong was an assistant at Baylor last season before taking the job to replace Will Wade in March.
Ndjonga is likely considered a depth piece after missing the last two seasons. He suffered a knee injury before the 2023-24 season, missing the entire campaign. He redshirted last season.
Before Baylor Ndjonga, a native of Yaounde, Cameroon, played his first year at New Mexico Military Institute. While there, he averaged 13.5 points and 8.3 rebounds in 26 games.
Ndjonga is expected to sign officially with McNeese in the coming days.
Last week, Armstrong signed Garwey Dual, who played last season at Seton Hall.
According to social media, McNeese remains in the mix for Indiana transfer Kanaan Carlyle, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard. The sophomore spent his first year in college at Stanford.
Carlyle played in 25 games for the Hoosiers last season, averaging four points while playing just a tick over 16 minutes a game. Those numbers were down from his year at Stanford.
As a freshman, Carlyle scored at an 11.5 clip, grabbing 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 25 games. He did that while playing almost 26 minutes for the Cardinal.
