Claude Pierce Johnson

Claude Pierce Johnson, 88, of Sulphur, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He was born to his late parents, Shelby and Shirley Johnson on Sept. 7, 1936 in Evangeline, La. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, coin collecting, word search puzzles, and playing dominoes with family and friends. He was a longtime member of Houston River Baptist Church.
He is survived by his two children, Boyd Michael Welch (Veronica) of Moss Bluff, and Sidney Lewis Welch of Jasper, Texas; two sisters, Marjorie Isgitt of Houston, Texas, and Julia Finch of Vidor, Texas; along with his grandchildren, Steven Welch, Justin Hodges, Melissa Loera, William Welch, Pamela Corea, Michael Welch, Leeann Stultz, Sidney Welch, Clayton Welch; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Claude is preceded in death by his wife, Lela Slayton Johnson; along with his special friend and companion, Barbara McMichael.
A Celebration of Claude’s life will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, La., with Pastor Lonnie Gothrup officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss.
