Georgia Lee Schap Bonin

Georgia Lee Schap Bonin, resident of Sulphur, La. passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 surrounded by her family. 

Georgia Lee was born April 27, 1933 in Lake Charles, La. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Dudley Schap Sr. and Relief Jessen Schap. Georgia was the great-granddaughter of Captain Daniel Goos, the pioneer lumberman who came to the area in 1855. 

She attended St. Charles Academy, and in the fifth grade began her lifelong passion for music. She played the saxophone, piano, and sang in the choir all her life including the Lake Charles Messiah for 35 years, the Silver Singers for 14 years and the Immaculate Conception Church Choir for over 40 years.

Over the years, Georgia worked alongside her husband, Glen, to build their construction company. She was active in the community serving on the Board of the Brimstone Museum. Her most diligent act of service was working with the Maplewood-Hollywood Lions Club. Georgia received numerous awards including the 1986 Dick Ward Fellowship Award for services at the Lions Club Children’s Camp, 1999 Volunteer of the Year Award and the Lions Club Appreciation Award for outstanding service and devotion to the Maplewood-Hollywood Lions Club. She was chairlady for over 12 years with her fellow Lioness, Ms. Tommie Robbins of the Annual Memorial Day services at the Lions Club Home. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen Edward Bonin; her two brothers, Herbert Schap Jr. and Edward Schap; son, Billy Bonin; son-in-law, Tommy Jeansonne; granddaughter, Mandy Jeansonne Poche, and sister-in-law, Nada Bonin Landry. 

Those left to cherish her memory are Billy’s wife, Myra of League City, Texas; children, Glenda Bonin Jeansonne of Baton Rouge, Lisa Bonin Schram and husband, Gus, of Lake Charles, Mike Bonin and wife, Darlene Gautreaux Bonin, of Sulphur; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; special friend, Tony Hogan, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt special thank you for the professional staff at Harbor Hospice, especially Elliott and Carly for their physical and emotional support in caring for Georgia. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur, La. on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11 a.m., with Father Timothy Goodly officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, La. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Rosary held at   6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. until the procession to the church. Burial will be at Goos Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Bonin, Jeremy Jeansonne, Glen Taylor Bonin, Lee Cheatham, Troas Poche, Mike Bonin, and Stanley Cheatham. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would  appreciate donations made in memory of Georgia Lee to the Louisiana Lions Camp Foundation  which will provide for the summer camp in perpetuity. The Louisiana Lions Camp is a place that the Bonin family has invested much time and love for the special needs youth of Louisiana.
