The doors to the Children’s Museum at Port Wonder will open bright and early Monday morning.

“Please note that we do anticipate crowds and will have to pause letting people in at peak times,” said Executive Director Allyson Montgomery.

The doors will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Admission to the museum is $16 for adults and children older than 23 months; $14 for senior citizens; and $14.75 for active-duty military and first responders with ID.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ Nature and Science Center side of Port Wonder is not included in the museum’s admission prices.

Tickets for the Nature and Science Center are $6.

The Children’s Museum portion of Port Wonder features four main galleries — nature, health, tech and cityscape.

The Nature and Science Center will showcase a variety of local species and provide insights into the work carried out by LDWF. The center includes a 1,500-gallon Bayou Tank freshwater aquarium, 6,900-gallon Cameron Jetty Tank that house brackish water species, and 2,900-gallon touch tank that allows guests to interact with stingrays and other non-native species.

Outside the center, guests can enjoy a fishing pier, which will be free to use.

The $20 million lake-front project was announced in 2018 and broke ground in June 2021.
