Early voting in May 3 election begins Saturday

Early voting for the May 3 election begins this Saturday and continues through April 26 across Southwest Louisiana.
Voters can cast early ballots 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily, except Sunday, April 20, at voter registrar offices and other designed locations.
In Calcasieu Parish, voting will also be held at the Sulphur Law Enforcement Building, 500 N. Huntington Street; Moss Bluff Public Library, 261 Parish Road and the Iowa Library Annex, 109 S. Thompson Ave.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot, other than the military and overseas voters, is Tuesday, April 29.
Voters should bring a driver’s license, a Louisiana special ID or some other generally recognized picture ID that contains a name and signature. Voters without a picture ID must sign an affidavit to vote.
Some parishes will be holding runoff elections for regularly-scheduled municipal primaries that were held in March.
In Southwest Louisiana, the ballot will include runoff elections for mayors in Lake Charles and DeRidder and council seats in Lake Charles and Jennings.
Some ballots will also include local propositions for law enforcement, police and fire departments, schools, solid waste collections and waterworks facilities.
There are no elections in Cameron Parish.
Jeff Davis Parish will only have a runoff election for the Jennings City Council on the ballot.
Calcasieu, Beauregard and Vernon parishes have both runoff races and propositions on the ballots.

Allen Parish
Renewal of a 10-year, one-percent sales tax for road repairs, public safety, park improvements, property maintenance, drainage improvements and day-to-day operations of the utility department. It is expected to generate $78,000 annually.
Renewal of a 10-year, 3-mill property tax for maintenance and operation of Hospital Service District 3, which includes the Allen Parish Community Healthcare hospital in Kinder. It will generate $189,000 annually.
Beauregard Parish
Runoff for DeRidder mayor between Michael D. Harris and Danny Reynolds.
A 20-year, $30 million parishwide bond issue to fund capital expenditures for schools, including construction and improvements of facilities.
Calcasieu Parish
Runoff for Lake Charles mayor between incumbent Nicholas “Nick” Hunter and Marshall Simien Jr.
District C councilman runoff between Tommy Bilbo and Priscilla Sam.
Renewal of a 10-year, half-percent sales tax for parishwide law enforcement district. It will generate $33.5 million annually for patrol, emergency response, community outreach and corrections divisions, including salaries and benefits.
Renewal of a 10-year, 10 mills property tax for the Westlake Fire Department. It will generate $705,000 annually for maintenance and operation of the fire department.
Renewal of a 10-year, 10 mills property tax for maintenance and operation of the Westlake Police Department. It will generate $705,000 annually.
Renewal of a 10-year, 10 mill property tax for maintenance and operation of the Westlake Police Department. It will generate $705,000 annually.
Renewal of a 10-year, one-percent sales tax for operation and maintenance of the Westlake fire department stations and equipment, sewerage facilities, public parks and recreational facilities and supplementing salaries and benefits for city employees. It will generate $1.5 million annually.
Renewal of a 10-year, half-percent sales tax for maintenance and operations of the Westlake Police Department. It will generate $750,000 annually.
Jeff Davis Parish
Runoff for District A councilman between incumbent Carolyn King Simon and Elisha Neal Duhon.
Vernon Parish
Some voters will cast ballots for a runoff election for the DeRidder mayor between Michael D. Harris and Danny Reynolds.
Renewal of a 10-year, one-percent sales tax for solid waste collection and maintenance and operation of roads and bridges. It will generate $8.6 million annually.
Renewal of 10-year, half-percent sales tax for maintenance, improvement and operation of roads, bridges and fire protection facilities. It will generate $4.3 million annually.
