DISTRICT TRACK: St. Louis girls win 13th consecutive title, Iowa sweeps 3-4A

Two state title contenders dominated the District 3-3A track and field championships on Tuesday at Jennings High School.
Lake Charles College Prep won the boys championship with 169 points, more than double second-place finisher, South Beauregard (81).
LCCP and St. Louis’ paths to the district title were the same as both won 10 of 12 running events.
The Trailblazers were paced by sophomore sprinter Ayden Carter and senior hurdler Kalen Antoine. Carter won the 100 (10.85) and 200-meter dash (22.28) and anchored the winning 4×100 (43.50) and 4×200 (1:30.69) relay teams. Antoine won the 300 hurdles with the best time in Class 3A this season, 39.89, and won the 110 hurdles in 15.78.
Junior Kylie Pousson and senior Hannah Boullion played key roles in the Saints’ 13th consecutive district championship. Pousson led the Saints to wins in the 4×100 (50.08), 4×200 (1:42.53) and 4×400 relay (3:55.42) and won the 800 run (2:28.90). Boullion, Class 3A’s top 400 runner, won gold in the 200 (24.79) and 400 (57.71) and was third in the 100 (12.33).
District 3-4A
Tuesday, April 15, at Iowa HS
Iowa swept the team titles in its first District 3-4A track and field championship meet.
The Iowa boys picked up some big points in the field events, winning five of seven events, and outpointed runner-up Leesville 183-117.
Kaston Lewis (LJ, 21-10), Bryceson Fontenot (TJ, 42-6), Harley Touvell (PV, 13-7), Christian Williams (JAV, 159-0) and Landon Joseph (SP, 44-8) won gold for the Yellow Jackets.
Iowa beat out Leesville for the girls team title 212-117.
Like the boys team, the Yellow Jackets had a solid lead after the field events with 88 points. 40 of those points came from first-place finishers Alivia Singletary (PV, 10-1), Ashtyn Henry (DIS, 94-5/JAV, 111-10) and Ilona Crittenden (SP, 31-4).
Washington-Marion’s Taylar Brown won four gold medals in the 100 (12.62) and 200 dash (25.93) , plus the long jump (18-1) and triple jump (35-5).
District 4-1A
Monday, April 14, at Basile HS
Led by a trio of underclassmen, Hamilton Christian won the boys team title by a landslide.
The Warriors scored 205 points, while runner-up Basile finished with 110.
Sophomore Javon Vital and junior Kaleb Bigwood scored 28 points each. Vital won the 100-meter dash in 10.79 seconds and took gold in the triple jump (42-9 ½). He was the runner-up in the long jump (21-2 ½). Bigwood sprinted to wins in the 200 (22.24) and 400 (50.09) and placed second to Vital in the 100 (11.06).
Hamilton Christian Junior Justin Weston won the 800 (2:17.95) and 1600 run (5:01.66).
The Warriors easily swept the relays (4×100, 45.04; 4×200, 1:34.01; 4×400, 3:39.07).
Landon Fontenot led Basile with gold in the 110 (17.92) and 300 (43.46) hurdles.
On the girls side, Hamilton Christian dominated in the sprints and middle-distance races, but Merryville took the team title 161-141.
Merryville Avery Cournoyer won three district titles in 100 (16.94) and 300 hurdles (48.81) and the triple jump (33-7).
Hamilton senior Jayla Davis swept the sprints (100, 12.82; 200, 26.84; 400, 1:00.03) and eighth grader Milah Ballou placed first in the 800 (2:33.27) and 1600 (5:50.33).
