Two more arrests made in death of man found shot inside wrecked vehicle

Two more people have been arrested in the March 9 death of a man found suffering from a gunshot wound inside a wrecked vehicle on McNeese Street. That brings the total number of people charged to four.

Lake Charles Police previously told the American Press that officers were called to a vehicle crash just before 11 p.m. March 9 near the McNeese Legacy Center. When they arrived, officers found Daniel Hernandez inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died of his injuries.

Just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in Minneapolis arrested 19-year old Colton Ryan Smith of Vinton on a warrant issued by the LCPD in connection to Hernandez’s death.

Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum told the American Press Smith was a passenger in a stolen vehicle at the time of his arrest.

Smith will be extradited to Lake Charles, Kirkum said, to faces charges of second-degree murder. His bond has been set at $950,000.

On Tuesday, April 8, LCPD officers arrested a juvenile on the charge of second-degree murder in connection with this homicide.

LCPD detectives and SWAT team members previously arrested Authur Lee Jack, 19, on April 1 at a West LaGrange Street apartment. He has been charged with second-degree murder with a bond set at $950,000. Keith Demetrius Syas, 19, was arrested in February and also charged with second-degree murder.
