Sunday’s Game: Auburn 3, LSU 2
Another day, more offensive futility for LSU baseball.
The Tigers ended a weekend of frustration Sunday with a 3-2 loss to Auburn that completed a War Eagle sweep in the Southeastern Conference series.
Continuing a weekend pattern, LSU managed only four hits in the finale and didn’t take advantage of the seven walks they were served up.
Still, the Tigers had plenty of chances.
“The game was there for the taking today and we didn’t do it,” LSU coach Jay Johnson said “We let some innings go offensively.”
The Tigers were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight runners.
“We needed to do better and we will be” Johnson said. “There are some adjustments that need to be made.”
LSU had runners on second and third with no outs after opening the inning with a walk and Chris Stanfield’s double.
The bases were eventually loaded with one out after a walk, but two of the Tigers’ best hitters, Jared Jones and Daniel Dickinson, struck out to end the threat.
LSU starter Chase Shores (5-2) lasted only two official innings. He gave up two runs in the first and another in the the third after walking that inning’s leadoff man too.
He was lifted after hitting Auburn’s leadoff man in the third and bullpen stars Zac Cowan and Casan Evans kept Auburn scoreless for the rest of the game.
