Cowboys win 11th in a row

The Cowboys are officially the hottest team in college baseball.
McNeese extended its nation-leading win streak to 11 Saturday with an easy 8-1 victory over Incarnate Word at Sullivan Field in San Antonio.
The victory improved the Cowboys to 26-5 overall and 13-4 in the Southland Conference, adding to the team’s best start in program history. McNeese stayed just one game behind Houston Christian for first place in the league.
Incarnate Word fell to 15-23, 2-18.
Conner Westenburg and Marcus Heusohn each had three hits to lead the Cowboys, who clinched the series. Heusohn drove in three runs while Westenburg scored three times.
The two combined for the game’s first run when Westenburg started the day with a single and scored three batters later on Heusohn’s single.
Simon Larranaga then provided all the runs McNeese would need when he hit his ninth home run. Larranaga hit a two-run shot in the top of the second to give the Cowboys a 3-0 lead.
Alexis Gravel threw six scoreless innings to start the game for the Cowboys, striking out nine while allowing just three hits. He improved to 4-1 on the season with the victory.
Three relievers followed Gravel to the mound and allowed just two hits..
Meanwhile, the Cowboys collected 14 hits, with Larranaga getting two.
Rey Mendoza homered for the second straight day. His eighth-inning solo shot gave him the UIW career record with 25. It was his eighth of the season.
McNeese will go for the sweep Sunday at 1 p.m.
