Bill Armstrong continues to add stars to his roster.

McNeese sources confirmed social media reports that Larry Johnson, Jr., a former 4-star recruit, will join the Cowboys and new head coach of McNeese State in the summer.

Johnson chose the Blue Jays over other national powers, including Illinois and Missouri. The Southern California product did not play in a game for Creighton last season.

When he signs, Johnson will become the third former 4-star recruit to transfer to McNeese since Armstrong replaced his good friend Will Wade a month ago.

Jacolb Cole (6-7 from Oklahoma) and Jerrell Colbert (6-10, SMU) signed in the last two weeks.

Coming out of high school, 247Sports rated Johnson the No. 80 prospect in the country and No. 10 in California.

“Larry has tremendous upside,” his high school coach at Southern California Academy, Julius Von Hanzlik, said last year. “His athleticism is electric. He has Zion Williamson-like explosiveness. He’s a tenacious defender—just a dog.

“Offensively, he puts pressure on the rim and can play through contact and finish above the rim. He does a good job making the right reads off the dribble. True scorer and playmaker.”

Johnson’s addition will give McNeese seven players on scholarship with six more spots to fill. The Cowboys are still expected to be after at least two more big men and another point guard.
