Two men were arrested on strangulation charges following separate domestic violence incidents that occured in Jennings.

In one case, officers responded to a call at Walmart on Monday, where a woman was found lying on the floor in the electronics section.

The woman reported that she was traveling from North Carolin to Texas with her ex-boyfriend, Miguel Ibarra, 24, of Lillington, N.C.

Officers observed scratches on her neck and hand.

The victim told police that an altercation occurred while the couple was traveling on Interstate 10, during which Ibarra allegedly choked her and restrained her hands.

Ibarra was arrested and booked into the Jeff Davis Parish Jail on a charge of domestic abuse with strangulation, with his bond set at $10,000.

In a different domestic violence case, Joshua Wade Hicks, 42, of Jennings is facing domestic abuse strangulation, resisting an officer with force or violence, self-mutilation by a prisoner and battery of a police officer following a domestic disturbance on Sunday. His bond is set at $60,000.

According to police, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of East Nezpique Street. Upon arrival, they heard a male and female screaming from a second-floor bedroom.

When officers attempted to enter the bedroom, Hicks allegedly barricaded himself and the victim inside by slamming the door.

Hicks reportedly became combative during the encounter with the officers.

After Hicks was handcuffed and secured in a patrol unit, officers attempted to speak with the female victim, who invoked her right to remain silent.

Officers noted that the victim was bleeding from the face and had visible red marks on her neck and chest, as well as petechiae in both eyes.
