Lake Charles Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Monday just before midnight on Interstate 10.

Sgt. Brad Puckett said officers responding to the crash discovered a male — who had been ejected from the vehicle and appeared to have life-threatening injuries — lying in the middle of the interstate.

Puckett said Acadian Ambulance attempted to perform life-saving measures, but the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the investigation of the crash officers were able to determine the vehicle involved was a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Ira Charles Perkins of Houston.

“The vehicle struck both inside and outside guardrails, for unknown reasons at this time, and came to a rest blocking both lanes of travel,” Puckett said.

The crash investigation is ongoing and standard toxicology testing results are pending.
