IOWA – Parker Daigle’s clutch hit lifted Iowa to a 2-1 extra-inning win over Pine Prairie in a battle of top-five teams Wednesday evening at Iowa High School.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Daigle hit a grounder to second base with the bases loaded and beat out the throw on a close call to score Addisyn Singletary.
Singletary reached base on a single with one out. Allie Darbonne hit a two-out single and Alivia Singletary was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting the stage for Daigle’s hit.
It was Iowa nine winning in 11 games. Iowa (17-7) is the fifth-ranked team in Non-select Division II, while Pine Prairie (19-2) is the No. 1 team in Non-select Division III.
Pine Prairie had a big scoring opportunity in the top of the eighth inning but left the bases loaded after hitting into a fielder’s choice.
Iowa took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Darbonne’s RBI single, but the Panther tied it in the next frame on a lead-off home run by Lainey Campbell.
Iowa’s Ayla Stollsteimer held Pine Prairie to one run on eight hits with one strikeout and four walks.
Pine Prairie’s Kynnedi Ware struck out 16 batters and walked one while allowing six hits.
