Today offer Southwest Louisiana the chance to view extravagant floral installations for a good cause.
The inaugural “ForEvergreen Flower Festival” will be hosted from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at the Lake Charles Country Club, 3350 Country Club Dr. The night of florals, music and community will benefit Evergreen Life Services – a nonprofit that serves adults with disabilities of all types.
Evergreen offers a vocational program, a day program and 24-hour care. Additionally, the organization has eight homes in Lake Charles and seven in Sulphur. Director of Development Rosa Alfred said while Evergreen took root in Southwest Louisiana in the late 1980s, the organization as a whole has served individuals with disabilities for 65 years.
This is the first fundraiser Evergreen has hosted in several years. Alfred said the Flower Festival aims to raise awareness about Evergreen’s services while shining a light on disabilities during Disability Awareness Month.
The theme “Bloom Where You Are Planted” was inspired by Evergreen’s local history and the far-reaching effects of their services, which are driven by the belief that every person in SW La. has the capability to grow and thrive.
“Evergreen has planted its roots here and we are working to serve individuals with disabilities where we are, and we’re helping them bloom and blossom into the wonderful individuals that they are,” she said. “No matter what their ability is, we want them to exceed in that and not feel limited by what people would cast away.”
Guests will vote for one of the two vibrant floral installations created by each of the SW La. sites. The winning location will be crowned “Champions of the Flower Fest.” There will be two additional installs that will serve as gorgeous backdrops for photos.
They will also be treated to a live performance by local musician Jasmyn Monique.
A live auction will take place. Guests will get to bid on a wide variety of items, including a luxury package from L’Auberge Casino and Resort.
Food will be provided by the Country Club. A cash bar will be available.
To further commemorate Disability Awareness Month, Evergreen is hosting an art showcase at Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center, 1001 Ryan St., until Saturday.
Individual tickets are $100. To purchase a ticket, be a sponsor or donate, visit evergreenls.org/flowerfest.
