Texas man arrested in fatal LC shooting

A Lake Charles man died early Sunday morning after a shooting in the parking lot of a bar on Common Street.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispated to the site Sunday at 5 a.m. in reference to a shooting.

During the initial investigation, detectives learned Fabian D. Charles, 34, Port Arthur, Texas, discharged a firearm in the parking lot during a physical altercation.

Javin M. Augustus, 25, Lake Charles, was struck by the gunfire.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Several witnesses at the scene were interviewed and Charles was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

He is charged with obstruction of justice; second-degree murder; and illegal use of a weapon by discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

Judge Hope Buford set his bond at $1.7 million.

The investigation is ongoing.  CPSO Violent Crimes Detective Matthew Fast is the lead investigator on this case.
