LSU hit a season-high six home runs and got another quality start out of Kade Anderson as the No. 1-ranked Tigers brought the mercy rule into play for a 13-2 victory over North Alabama,
Anderson (3-0) struck out 11 in only six innings of work and did not walk a batter as LSU improved to 14-1. The game was halted after seven inning with up by more than 10 runs.
The two teams meet again on Saturday, with the first pitch starting time moved up to noon due to the threat of inclement weather in Baton Rouge.
The power show was highlighted by brothers Josh and John Pearson, who both hit home runs.
The Tigers’ six home runs was the most in a game since also hitting six against Kentucky in the 2023 Super Regional held in Alex Box.
“We had some really good quality baseball swings tonight,” LSU head coach Jay Johnson said. “We’ve got some strong guys that are seeing the plan well. They’re staying in a good plan right now and hitting the ball really hard, which is awesome to see.”
The other home runs came from second baseman Daniel Dickinson (his fifth), shortstop Steven Milam (3),catcher Luis Hernandez (1) and third baseman Tanner Reaves (1).
After the teams were scoreless through the first two innings, the Tigers (14-10) hit their first two home runs and plated five runs in the third.
They added two in the fourth and a single run in the fifth before scoring five more runs in the bottom of the sixth, including John Pearson’s first career home run.
North Alabama fell to 3-9.
It was the ninth straight win for the Tigers.
Anderson (3-0) allowed four hits and one run in his six innings of work. His 11 strike outs were a season-high and he didn’t walk a batter.
“Kade is very reliable in terms of strikes, in terms of competitive nature, in terms of keeping things on the rails,” Johnson said. “He just keeps getting better and I thought his stuff was really sharp.”
Mavrick Rizy pitched the ninth, allowing one run on one hit.
