Strong winds may put a damper on Mardi Gras festivities today.
Sustained south winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected, said National Weather Service Lake Charles Meteorologist Andrew Tingler.
That’s in addition to thunderstorms expected to roll this way, too.
Tingler said there is a very high chance (80-100%) of rain and a slight to enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms.
The worst of the weather is expected between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Beauregard, Allen, Calcasieu, Jeff Davis and Cameron parishes.
The Zone —a family-friendly location along the Mardi Gras Parade route provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Office of Juvenile Justice Services — has been canceled due to high winds and the potential for severe weather.
After receiving the latest update from the US National Weather Service Lake Charles Louisiana, City officials, local law enforcement and public safety officials, and Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana offer the following updates on today’s parade schedule.
The Second Line Stroll is cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather.
Jeeps on Parade and the Motor Gras Parade will roll at 4:30 pm and the Krewe of Krewes Parade will roll at 5:30 pm.
