Dwayne “Chief” Patrick Guidry

Dwayne “Chief” Patrick Guidry, born on April 13, 1967, in Jennings, La., passed away at the age of 57 on Feb. 28, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, whose legacy of service will endure through the love and sacrifices he shared with his family, community, and country.

Dwayne was the devoted husband of Darlene Guidry and a proud father to his five children: Janelle Gary, Jonathan Guidry, Brock Guidry, Breanna Guidry, and Trenton Guidry. He cherished his role as a PaPa to his precious grandchildren: Ariana Gary, Abel Gary, Harper Guidry, and Aliza Gary. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was deeply committed to the protection and care of all whom he loved. His faith provided him with the strength and wisdom to support his family and lead by example.

Dwayne began his extensive military career with three years in the Louisiana Army National Guard Infantry Division. He went on to spend 24 more years proudly serving in the United States Army, specializing as an electronics technician for military intelligence and earning the distinction of Chief Warrant Officer IV. His active-duty career led him to three combat tours, including Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. His military career brought his family across the world with 16 moves.

Dwayne continued to serve his country as the ground-breaking Director of the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. He cherished his opportunity to serve veterans, ensuring the highest standard of excellence and honor for their final resting place. His integrity and compassion for those who defended our nation’s freedom was unwavering. As Chief would always reply to anyone who thanked him, “It was an honor to serve.”

Dwayne is survived by his father, Patrick Guidry; his siblings; Priscilla (Dennis) Bresnahan, Theresa (David) Lipscomb, Rosalyn (Paul) Racca, and Kirt (Debbie) Guidry. He cherished his family as much as they did him. With every opportunity, he shared his love, support, and abundance of humor.

The family will hold funeral services to honor Dwayne’s life on March 6, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, located in Jennings, La. Prior to the funeral service, there will be a public viewing at Miguez Funeral Home, beginning at 8 a.m. on the same day. A rosary will be recited at Miguez Funeral Home on March 5, 2025, at 7 p.m., following the initial public viewing starting at 3 p.m. March 5, 2025.

Dwayne will be laid to rest after the funeral service on March 6, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery located at 1620 Evangeline Rd., Jennings, LA 70546.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all others whom he touched throughout his honorable life. His family encourages those who knew Dwayne to celebrate his life and the memories they created together. May he rest in eternal peace.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his mother Marie Ruby Guidry.
