Josh Pearson’s third double of the game sparked a six-run seventh inning that rallied LSU from a five-run deficit to an 11-6 victory over Nebraska Saturday.

The No. 2-ranked Tigers (10-1) clinched the Frisco Collegiate Classic title at Rider Field with the victory. The Tigers wind up the tournament Sunday at 4 p.m. against Sam Houston (2-8).

LSU trailed 5-0 after three innings, but chipped away with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth before the big breakout with six runs in the top of the seventh.

“We don’t have to totally rely on pitching or totally rely on offense to win games,” LSU head coach Jay Johnson said. “We’re a well-rounded team with high-character guys. I’m glad everyone has been able to see that the last few days.”

LSU starter Anthony Eyanson (2-0) got the win despite giving up base hits to the first three batters he faced, all of whom scored in the first inning.

Eyanson also gave up single runs in the second and third innings for the 5-0 Nebraska lead.  But he settled down and lasted six innings, not allowing another run and retiring 11 of the last 12 batters he faced during the comeback.

He struck out seven in his six innnings while allowing seven hits.

“Anthony began to execute better pitches,” Johnson said. “His intent led to be better conviction and his pitches seemed sharper. He’s obviously in great condition. Maybe he’s one of those guys who gets better as the game goes along.”

Pearson went 4-for-6 with three doubles and scored four times but, oddly, didn’t get an RBI until he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth for the Tigers’ final run.

A hit batter also got the decisive seventh inning going as Daniel Dickinson was hit by a pitch before Pearson’s double put runners at second and third.

Steven Milam tied the game on and RBI single and Jake Brown gave the Tigers their first lead when he followed with a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers stretched the lead on RBI singles by Chris Stanfield and Derek Curiel and an 2-run single by Jared Jones.

Milam finished with two runs and two RBIs while Jake Brown also had a pair of RBIs.

Zac Cowan took over for Eyason and pitched two innings, allowing one run, while freshman William Schmidt pitched the ninth the finish the game.
