Jeff Davis Parish School Superintendent John Hall issued a statement Friday to provide an update on the ongoing investigation at Hathaway High School.
Jeff Davis Parish school officials and the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office were recently made aware of a serious incident that allegedly occurred at the school last October, involving impermissible behavior between students.
In the statement, Hall wrote, “We take these matters with the utmost seriousness and have been working closely with detectives from the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is actively underway, and we are committed to ensuring that this matter is handled with transparency and thoroughness.”
He emphasized that the school system has a zero-tolerance policy for any form or harassment or misconduct.
“We are deeply committed to ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and respected within our schools,” he continued. “The safety and well-being of our students are our highest priority, and we will take all necessary steps to address this matter and hold accountable anyone involved in such behavior.”
The school system will take appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with parish police and state law once the investigation is complete, he said.
Hall assured the public that school officials are addressing the matter with the highest level of seriousness and urgency.
“We will not tolerate any form of harassment or misconduct in our schools, we will continue to work diligently in the investigation, keeping the safety of our students at the forefront of all our actions,” Hall said.
