Gerry, a cherished father, grandfather (pawpaw), and friend, peacefully passed away at the age of 73, surrounded by his loved ones. A lifelong resident of Sulphur, La., Gerry retired from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury in May of 2012, after many years of dedicated service.

Known for his unwavering kindness, infectious smile, and generous spirit, Gerry’s heart was always open to those in need. He touched the lives of everyone he met, and his love for his family was unmatched. Above all, Gerry’s greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, Grey and Cole Garcia. He adored and spoiled them mercilessly during their special shopping springs (sprees) and found pure happiness in their company.

Gerry had a deep love for sports, with LSU being his team of choice. He also had a passion for collecting unique antiques and was known for maintaining a beautiful yard. Many afternoons were spent sitting on his patio, enjoying time with family and friends, always creating memories to cherish. When not sitting on the patio sharing stories, he was happy doing the various do-it-yourself projects at home. 

Gerry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, warmth, laughter, and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecile J. Trahan and Ralph R. Trahan. Left to honor his memory are his children, Tiffany (Michael) Garcia, Justin Trahan, and Cassie (Ricky) Wesley; his grandchildren, Grey and Cole Garcia, Chance (Jacey) Wesley, and Chase Wesley (Hannah), as well as three great-grandchildren.

Though Gerry may no longer be with us, his spirit and the memories he created will forever remain in our hearts.  A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service.
