Marjorie Pulliam Gustine

Marjorie Pulliam Gustine died at home in the early hours of Wednesday morning Feb. 5, 2025. There will be no funeral as she has donated her body to Science, the ultimate gift to future generations allowing educators to create new techniques that continue to improve and save lives of many others.
Marjorie was born in 1929 in New Orleans, La. to parents, Harold Truman Pulliam and Vera Mildred Hebert Pulliam and grandparents, the Rev. Martin Hebert and Nettie Clarissa Kingsbury Hebert and Cora Truman Pulliam and Cassius Melvan Clay Pulliam (all deceased).
Marjorie’s early years were lived out in Port Author, Texas. Her parents moved out to their farm in Westlake, La. and Marjorie finished her schooling at LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, La.
Marjorie graduated from McNeese in Lake Charles, La. and went on to complete her BA Degree in Education from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, La. She later received her Master’s Degree in Education from McNeese State University. She taught up until the age of 75.
Marjorie met her then husband, Frank Gustine (deceased), at the Lake Charles Air Force Base (later named Chennault) here in Lake Charles, married and moved to his hometown of Galesburg, Ill.. Marjorie taught school in Galesburg and raised two boys, Franklin Johns Gustine III (Reddy) (deceased) and Gerald Allan Gustine (Jerry). Marjorie moved back to Lake Charles and became active in many civic and community activities such as Delta Kappa Gamma an educational society where she was president twice. She was in a teachers group that met monthly and a 50 year member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Marjorie and others met each Sunday after church with the Sunday Lunch Bunch enjoying time spent eating and discussing life. Marjorie loved her church and was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles where she was active in UMW, choir, and participated in many activities there and supported many charities.
Marjorie is survived by one son, Gerald Allan Gustine and his wife, Lorinda Jones Gustine, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one grandson, Jeremy Allan Gustine (Sarah Jerger) from Denver, Colo; one granddaughter, Allana Gustine Powell (Michael Lewis Powell) from Colorado Springs, Colo.; her two great-grandchildren, Alissandra Monet Powell and Elijah Lewis Powell from Colorado Springs, Colo.; Franklin Johns Gustine III (Reddy’s) daughter, Stephanie Gustine McMorris and her husband, Michael McMorris, and children of Lafeyette, Ind.; two sisters, Carolyn Pulliam Holcombe of Brandon, Miss. and her children, and finally Dorothy Pulliam Cavallo of San Marcos, Calif. and her children.
A memorial service will be held by the Rev. Weldon Bares on Tuesday, Feb. 25 2025 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles.
