Margaret Louise “Peggy” Alcede, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Nov. 3, 1942, to Joseph Alcede Jr. and Margaret Louise Kelton.

She was a proud graduate of Lake Charles High School, Class of 1960 where she was also a member of Lake Charles High School Kilties, Louisiana’s first all girl’s drill team.

In 1964, Peggy was blessed to start her career in healthcare, working as a Medical Transcriptionist at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.  The medical field turned out to be a true calling for her all while she also attended McNeese State University. In 1974, she continued her calling as she began her tenure in the Medical Department at Olin Chemicals, where she continued to serve until her retirement in 1998.

Peggy’s commitment to her community shined through with her acts of service in groups like the Les Femmes d’Affaires Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association and her membership in the Pink Ladies of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

She was a devoted Christian and a life-long member of Boulevard Church of Christ, where she found strength and peace throughout her life.  For years she taught Sunday School for girls and ladies classes.  She was also a charter member of the campus ministry at McNeese.  She was fondly nicknamed Aunt Peg, Grand Peg, and The Rock.  It was even well known, at Boulevard Church of Christ, exactly where her designated seat was because for years she used her mother’s foot stool in the pew due to her being “vertically challenged”.

Peggy is survived by her sister, Edythe Marlone Mathews of Lumberton, Texas; sister-in-law, Dianna Alcede of Lake Charles, La., and her nieces and nephew, Crystal Alcede Mathews (David), Bethany Alcede Touchet (Shaun), and Jeremy Alcede all of Lake Charles, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Alcede Jr. and Margaret Alcede, and her brother, Joseph “Joey” Alcede III.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, La. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Family and Youth Counseling Agency.

Peggy’s family and friends will forever treasure her memory and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.
