Norma Jean Burleigh

Norma Jean Lyons Burleigh, 82, of Ragley, La. entered into her Heavenly reward on Jan. 20, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. completely surrounded by her family in the peace of her home.

Norma was born in Church Point, La. on March 11, 1942 to Ferdie and Louisiana Lyons. She spent her childhood picking cotton and working on a dairy farm when she wasn’t in school. She helped care for her six siblings, Gloria (Curt) Wimberly (dec.), Eloise (Pat-dec.) David, Elaine Nation (dec.), Kenneth (Linda) Lyons, Deborah (Kazem) Mohajer, and Dwaine Lyons.

In Church Point she met the love of her life, Robert. They married young and started their family right away. She devoted her whole life to being a Godly wife and mother. She loved to garden and work in her Kitchen. Canning and food preservation were her latest joys.

She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ragley, La. for over 45 years. She had served on the ladies auxiliary and loved to pray her daily Rosary.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 64 years, Robert Burleigh; her children, Lou Alice (James) Barrow of Longville, Corey (Betty) Burleigh of Ragley, La., Stephanie (Donald) Leger of Ragley, La., Gracie (Martin) Torres of Carlyss, La., and Marshall (Kassie) Burleigh of Ragley, La..

Her grandchildren, Mandy (Matt) Jones, Jessica and Samantha Barrow, Allison (Nick) Johnson, Kaitlin (Jacob) Maulding, Jeremiah Leger, Joshua Leger and fiance, Noelle King, Anna (Joseph) Hennigan, Abigail, Joseph, and Ashleigh Leger, Emily, Isaac, and Aaron Burleigh. Great-grandchildren, Gwyn and Luke Jones, Jaxson, Ira and Ivy Johnson, Ethan Leger, Sebastian Leger, August, Atticus, and Autumn Hennigan. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. 

The family would like to express their gratitude to LCMH for their exceptional care they provided to our momma during her last days. The nurses and support teams were caring and professional. A special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Fidencio Davalos who treated our momma as his own. We are also grateful to Father Jeffrey Starkovich and Pastor Corey Townsley for ministering to the family during this time. 

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. A Eulogy will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at 8 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Starkovich officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley, La. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church building fund in Norma’s memory.
