Lily Y. Tuggle, 95, passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2025, in Sulphur, La. She was born on Nov. 24, 1929, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Lily was a vibrant and caring individual, known for her fun-loving spirit and compassion for others. She never hesitated to lend a hand, as shown by her time as an Emergency Response Van driver for the American Red Cross and as a volunteer at St. Patrick and Lake Area Hospitals in Lake Charles. A passionate community member, she enjoyed participating in Mardi Gras festivities as a Twelfth Night Reveler in Lake Charles.

Her deep faith was integral to her life. An active member of the Methodist Church, she participated in Sunday School, choir, Bible studies, and served as a Stephen Minister. Her commitment to service was lifelong, and she embraced her church community wherever she moved.

Lily’s sharp intellect and zest for life defined her character. She was an avid reader and puzzle solver, passions she continued until dementia took hold. Even after her passing, her spirit of generosity shines on, as she arranged to donate her body to the LSU Health Center for scientific research.

Lily is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Linda Tassin (Bill), and her two sons, Fred Tuggle (Sharon) and Roy Tuggle Jr. (Marsha). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Eric Easton, Shasta Whites, Toni Tuggle, and Shari Tuggle, along with her many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lin Kam Lew; her husband, Roy F. Tuggle; her sister, Helen Doo; and her brothers William, Robert, Frederick, and Howard Lew.

Lily’s educational journey included a degree from Compton Junior College in California, which equipped her for a successful career spanning various civil service roles, including secretary, stenographer, and intelligence research specialist in many countries including Germany, Taiwan, Panama, and Okinawa. Her dedication to her work earned her numerous Superior Performance Awards.

A Celebration of Life service honoring Lily will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at University United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, La. In lieu of flowers, the family invites contributions to University United Methodist Church, the American Red Cross, or the American Cancer Society.

Lily Y. Tuggle will be remembered for her unwavering love, her spirit of service, and her joyful enthusiasm for life. She will be deeply missed.
