Warmer temperatures means remaining snow could be gone by tonight

Thursday morning temperatures are starting to climb — some 20 degrees warmer than those seen across parts of the area Wednesday.

National Weather Service Lake Charles Meteorologist Donald Jones said that temperatures are expected to climb above freezing around 10 a.m. and remain that way through sunset.

“This will allow nearly all remaining black ice and/or snow to melt off of area roadways,” Jones said. “Additionally, this will result in significant melting of snow on grassy areas.”

He said the vast majority of snow should be gone by tonight.

“Temperatures will drop into the mid 20s again tonight into Friday morning. Any liquid water on roadways from melting snow will freeze, but this will likely be minimal,” Jones said. “A lighter freeze is expected Friday night into Saturday morning and that should be the last night of freezing temperatures for this event. We then return to our regularly scheduled winter.”
