Schools and district offices in Allen Parish will be back in session Friday as temperatures begin to warm and snow accumulation continues to melt.

After speaking with local officials, assessing campuses and discussing transportation, Superintendent Brad Soileau said Thursday a decision was made to reopen schools on Friday.

Schools will start at normal times.

Schools across the district were closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, followed by three days of weather-related closures after freezing temperatures caused problems on some campuses.

“Our parish and school teams have conducted assessments of all campuses,” Soileau said. “We identified a few issues related to broken pipes, which have since been resolved.”

Issues dealing with cold temperatures, mostly busted pipes, were reported at Kinder Elementary School, Kinder Middle School, Oakdale Elementary School, Oakdale High School and Reeves High School. All had been repaired by Thursday afternoon

“We were very fortunate and our maintenance department did a great job,” Soileau said, extending his sincere gratitude to the parish’s maintenance department and local officials for their assistance in monitoring and facilitating immediate repairs.

Soileau also thanked parents, school employees and others for their patience and understanding during the unprecedented winter weather.
