Marjorie Carlisle Ambrister

Marjorie Carlisle Ambrister, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Jan. 6, 2025, at the age of 101 in Orange City, Fla. She was born on Sept. 13, 1923, in LaGrange, Ga.
Known affectionately as Margie, she was a vibrant social butterfly whose love for her family was at the core of her being. Margie had a gift for bringing people together and was often seen as a matchmaker among friends and family. Her caring nature and genuine wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Margie was a proud graduate of LaGrange High School and later attended Georgia Baptist Nursing School, serving as a Nurse Cadet during World War II. Her nursing career flourished as she became the Night Supervisor of Nursing at City-County Hospital in LaGrange, Ga. After marrying her beloved husband, Jerome Warner Ambrister, she moved to Lake Charles, La., where she dedicated herself to raising their family and supporting Jerome’s medical practice.
Throughout her life, Margie was actively involved in her community. She was a long-standing member of the Women’s Medical Auxiliary, a Campfire Girls leader, a devoted Lake Charles High School Band Mom, and spent many years on the Wedding Coordination Team at the First Baptist Church of Lake Charles.
Margie loved reading, spending time with family, going on cruises, playing Shanghai, and taking occasional trips to Las Vegas with her girlfriends. Her joyful spirit and love for life resonated with everyone she met.
She is survived by her sister Sandra Collier and brother Larry Carlisle; daughters, Susan Ambrister and Angela Hyde; grandchildren, David Lundy, Rachael Lundy-Davis, Claire Lozano, and Laura Hyde; great-grandchildren, Ella Perry, Jones Lundy, Magnolia Lundy, and Vivian Lozano; and she is survived by many adoring cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Olive Mae Carlisle; her husband, Jerome Warner Ambrister; her brother, William Nelson Carlisle Jr.; and her grandson Christopher Lundy.
A memorial service celebrating Margie’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, with a viewing at 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service officiated by the Rev. Shane Gaster at 3 p.m. A committal service will take place from 4 p.m.to 4:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, located at 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Texas Heart Institute of Houston.
Margie’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be remembered for her nurturing spirit and the joy she brought to those around her.
