John “Mike” Michael Scanlon

Mike Scanlon, 81, of Sulphur passed away at his residence suddenly and unexpectedly.

Mike was born in Atlanta, Ga., was raised in Windermere, Fla. and was a longtime resident of Sulphur, La. He was a graduate of the University of New Mexico, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. He served as an engineer at the local plants of Olin Chemical and Bridgestone/Firestone. In his spare time Mike was an avid reader and fisherman, activities he enjoyed his entire life. He had a home in Montana he would retreat to for the enjoyment of fishing and hiking. Also, as a young man he was a champion skeet shooter and an excellent water skier, and later acted as a Ham Radio Operator.

He was proceeded in death by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Theresa Bertinot Scanlon, and his parents, John Joseph Scanlon and Dorothy Luxton Scanlon. He leaves to his memory his sister, Mary Scanlon, Florida; cousins, Lynn Boyce, Donna L. Gilbert and Jack Scanlon, all of Anaconda, Mont. and Robert Burnett, of Oregon; stepsons, Bret Dronet and Neil Dronet, of Texas.

As to the family wishes, no local formal ceremony will be held. His cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and his remains will be returned to Montana to be scattered on the trails he so much enjoyed hiking.
