Severe weather in SW La. forecast ahead of ‘big chill’

There is a slight risk of severe weather on Sunday for Southwest Louisiana ahead of the big chill expected to hit the area next week.
National Weather Service Lake Charles Meteorologist Andrew Tingler said isolated showers will develop early in the morning with thunderstorm coverage increasing from mid-day through late afternoon. Right now, the office is looking at a noon to 6 p.m. timeframe for the most severe weather.
“Specific risk levels remain uncertain, however it does appear all modes of severe weather may be possible,” Tingler said.
That includes tornadoes, he said.
“The risk includes the potential for significant tornadoes of EF-2 strength or greater,” Tingler said.
Following Sunday’s weather, a cold front is then expected to sweep through the area with a colder airmass filtering in for next week.
“Below-normal temperatures will linger through the remainder of the forecast and potentially beyond,” Tingler said.
