LSU’s portal shopping spree grows

LSU coach Brian Kelly is making good on his pledge to be more aggressive in the transfer portal to fill out next season’s roster.

The Tigers have recently added three more newcomers out of the portal, giving them nine total.

The list includes, three wide receivers, two defensive ends, two cornerbacks, a tight end and a quarterback — all positions of need for the Tigers.

The latest, however, was perhaps the biggest acquisition yet as LSU picked up wide receiver Nic Anderson from Oklahoma. The 6-4, 190-pound Anderson is ranked as the No. 6 overall player in the portal by On3 Sports and the No. 3 wide receiver.

Anderson, who is from Katy, Texas, missed most of the 2024 season with an injury, but as a freshman in 2023 he caught 31 passes for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Sooners.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

LSU has also added cornerback Mansoor Delane from Virginia Tech and wide receiver Destyn Hill from Florida State.

Delane, who will be a senior, had four interceptions for the Hokies last year and six for his career.

Hill is unproven but an interesting case and will be returning to Louisiana.

He was heavily recruited out of Karr High School in New Orleans four years ago, but — citing only “personal reasons” — waited two years before enrolling at Florida State.

He battled hamstring issues while playing in 10 games during the Seminoles’ 2023 unbeaten regular season when he caught six passes for 87 yards.

He was scheduled to start last year when a torn ACL in spring practice derailed his entire season.
