Vera Bernice Richard

Vera Bernice Richard, 96, of Sulphur, La., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024 at her residence. She was born to her late parents, Ed and Callie Procell on March 2, 1928 in Zwolle, La. Vera was a prior parishioner at St. Henry Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Lake Charles. She was a current parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur. Vera was also a 50 plus year member of the Catholic Daughters where she faithfully served. She was very involved in setting up Masses at Holly Hill Nursing Home and Immaculate Conception Cathedral, and taught Catechism at St. Henry Catholic Church in years past. Vera loved her garden, cooking, and said the Rosary daily. She had a very loving and giving heart and truly loved her family and friends. 

 She is survived by her daughter, Paula Guillory (Michael) of Galveston, Texas; son, Wayne Richard of Sulphur, La.; eight siblings; grandchildren, Kimberly Richard,  Alex Richard (Shelby), and Layla Richard; three great-grandchildren, Drake Diamond, Gage Richard, and Rosie Richard; one great-great-grandson, Kruz Diamond; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Vera is preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, Francis R. Richard; her parents, Ed and Callie Procell; three siblings; and two sons, Darryl Richard and Leonard Richard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur, La. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at 11 a.m., with Father Timothy Goodly officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until the procession to the church. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Charles, La.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution if desired can be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur and/or Brighton Bridge Hospice (www.brightonbridge.com).
