When the holiday season rolls around next year, a new lakefront hotel could be under construction. Mayor Nic Hunter announced the news Friday.

ReNew Lake Charles LLC will build a 154-room Hilton branded hotel on property leased from the city (Lake Charles Event Center property).

Other highlights of the announcement included additional meeting space to be built by the city that will connect to the hotel and a new, state-of-the-art amphitheater to be built on property where the Hertz Tower was demolished. The hotel will not be built on that site, as reported by the the American Press earlier this week. Council has the final say. It meets Dec. 18.

It will also take a council majority vote in favor of the city’s plans to purchase the Hertz Tower property and parking garage for an amount below appraisal and below the cost to construct a new garage.
