E.D. White keeps Leesville in check to advance to state championship game

No. 7 Leesville struggled to move the ball against No. 3 E.D. White on Friday in the Select Division II semifinals in Thibodaux as the Cardinals dominated their way to a 41-13 win.

E.D. White held the Wampus Cats (10-3) to a season-low point total and 207 yards of total offense while forcing three turnovers.

Nursing a 7-0 lead, the Cardinal defense picked off two passes in six minutes. Nate Thompson picked off a pass with 1:55 left in the first quarter, and Jax Triche had a 16-yard pick-six with 8:26 left in the second quarter to put the Cardinals up 14-0.

E.D. White held Leesville running back Xavier Ford to 44 yards in the first half. He fared better in the second half scoring on runs of nine and 22 yards, his final carry of his career. He finished with 137 yards on 28 carries (unofficial stats). That would put him at 8,569 career yards and 3,444 for the season with 52 touchdowns.

E.D. White used its ground game and long drives to do the rest of the work. Quarterback Grant Barbera scored on a 1-yard keep with 19 seconds left in the first half, and Carter Douglas scored twice in the second half on a pair of 3-yard runs.

E.D. White (11-2) will face No. 1 Archbishop Shaw in the finals next week. Shaw beat No. 5 Madison Prep 35-28 in the semifinals.
