Gloria Dean “Byrd” Pertuit

Gloria Dean “Byrd” Pertuit, 82, of Sulphur, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024. She was born to her late parents, Harvey and Stella Byrd on Nov. 8, 1942 in Hattiesburg, Miss. Gloria was the pianist at Maplewood First Baptist for many years and also played the piano at High Hope Care Center for a number of years. Gloria was a Notary Public and worked as a legal and engineering secretary. She was a Mom to many and a friend to all.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Pertuit; three daughters, Dianne Teal and husband, Mark, of Baton Rouge, La., Susan Carlisle of Sulphur, La., and Janet Gayle and husband, Trigg, of Sulphur, La.; four grandchildren, Robert Teal and wife, Lauren, Daniel Teal and wife, Brittani, Rebecca Carlisle, and Katelyn Gayle; two great-grandchildren, Stella Teal and Caliste Teal, along with a host of friends and family who will deeply miss her.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Eddie Byrd, along with her sister, Louise Morgan.
A Celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, La. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024 at 10 a.m., with Bro. Jeremy Blocker officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines North Cemetery in Sulphur, La.
