Lewis Carlos Gonzales

Lewis Carlos Gonzales passed on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, in Flower Mound, Texas after a long and brave battle with lung cancer.
Lewis is preceded in death by his father Agrefino Mendoza Gonzales and his mother Loretta, née Ruest; his siblings, Della Gonzales, a.k.a “Della Lee”, Danny Gonzales, Alfred A. “Sonny” Gonzales, and Rita Grace Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Ann Hutson Gonzales; his daughter, Della Lynn Gonzales; his son, Lewis Carlos Gonzales Jr. (wife, Susan Berg Gonzales); three grandchildren, Breanne Jackson (Austin), Ashley Dewbre (Chris) and Andrew Gonzales (Allie); four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Logan, Piper and Nolan and a host of family, friends and neighbors.
Lewis was born Feb. 11, 1936 in Fall River, Mass. He moved to Lake Charles, La. when stationed at Chennault Air Base where Lewis served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957. During this time Lewis met the love of his life, Barbara, and they married on Dec. 23, 1956. Subsequently, Lewis went on to work as a deputy sheriff for the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff’s Office (CPSO), retiring in 1999 after 26 years of service. During his career in law enforcement, Lewis was instrumental in founding the CPSO Honor Guard, served on the CPSO Task Force, and worked as head of the funeral division for many years. While serving in the funeral division, Lewis offered kind words and a caring ear to members of the Lake Charles and Moss Bluff communities during their time of grief. Lewis was also a proud member of the W. B. Williamson Post 1 American Legion and faithful congregant of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Churches in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In his spare time, Lewis loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed fishing in the lakes, bayous and marshes around Lake Charles. He was very much beloved and will be sorely missed.
Visitation at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home in Flower Mound, Texas, will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024 at the National Shrine Cathedral of the Lady of Guadalupe in downtown Dallas followed by 1 p.m. burial at DFW National Cemetery.
