Sister Katie Rose Anderson-Rochelle, 91, of Jennings, La., transitioned from earthly labor to heavenly reward on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, at her residence. Sister Rochelle was born on Sept. 10, 1933, in Jennings, La. to Gladys Berniece Guidry-Anderson and Charles Willie Anderson Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Union Bapt. Church, pastored by the Rev. Gerald W. Perkins Sr. Sis. Rochelle was a graduate of Southern Univ. in Baton Rouge, La., where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education. She earned 30 hours above her Master Degree at Texas Southern Univ.
Sis. Rochelle was a long-time Organist for the Choir at Union Baptist Church. She also served as the Pianist for B.T.U., Sunday School Teacher, Sister Rochelle was a Retired Educator after 30 plus years of dedicated service as a second grade teacher at Central Elementary. Sis. Rochelle was active in her community, serving on the Boards of Zigler Art Museum, the Jeff Davis Arts Council, and the Carnegie Library. She was a faithful member of National Assoc. of University Women, the Rosebud Chapter #5 Order of Easter Star, and the Cora McZeal Circle Mission.
Sis. Rochelle was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert D. Rochelle Sr; two children, Wilbert David Rochelle Jr. and Wilberta Davida Rochelle; her parents, Charles W. Anderson Sr. and Gladys Berniece Guidry-Anderson; her brother, Charles W. Anderson Jr.
Sister Rochelle leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, one son, Wendell Barry Rochelle (wife, Wyndy) of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren, Wilbert Barry Rochelle and Shannon Marie Rochelle; a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at Union Baptist Church in Jennings, La. The Rev. Gerald W. Perkins Sr. will officiate. A visitation will be held in the Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will resume on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Benevolent Cemetery in Jennings, La. under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings, La. Condolence may be expressed to the family at www.semien-lewismortu ary.com.
