A 20-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged in a Monday night fatal shooting at a home on Tom Hebert Road.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kayla Vincent said Obking Provost was arrested after a projectile from a shooting entered the home of Cristina Lobato, 66, striking and killing her.
Vincent said that while deputies were investigating Lobato’s death, they were advised by Provost that someone had shot him while he was walking in the same neighborhood.
“During further investigation, detectives learned there was no assault that occurred,” Vincent said. “It was discovered that Provost, who is a convicted felon and unable to possess a firearm, accidentally discharged a firearm, injuring himself, subsequently causing the projectile to enter the victim’s home.”
Provost was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on Tuesday and charged with obstruction of justice; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; manslaughter; and illegal discharge of a firearm.
His bond is still pending.
“The investigation is continuing and detectives are currently in the process of identifying others who were involved, and may have provided Obking with assistance,” Vincent said.
More arrests are possible.
